Houston Flood Relief Campaign
for victims of Allison Storm
Dear all VCSA family and friends;
We are launching an emergency fund-raising drive for all flood victims currently suffered in Houston and Vicinity area (the death toll has reached 20, more than 20,000 families were forced to evacuate since their home were flooded, now they came back and started rebuild their lives. Of course, they do have some support program from federal funds as well as state and city funds. However, to show our love and care to the Houstonians including some of Vietnamese-American families affected as well (actually we do have many members' family affected by the flood), VCSA would like to launch a fund raising drive to help the flood victims this weekend.
The campaign will be running until the end of this weekend (Sunday June 17). Enclosed is Vera Tran's email sent to Houston group, I believe that it is for a good cause, so I would like to share this with other chapters as well, with the hope that you will lend us a hand.
For those of you who are not in Houston, the best way would be pledging the money. Please make you check payable to "Salvation Army", your donation is tax-deductible and Salvation Army will send you the receipt individually. We decide to pick Salvation Army instead of American Red Cross since currently Channel 11 on TV is working on a campaign for American Red Cross, Trinh Le, one of our members who is the Editor of Sun Newspaper suggested that we put our funds to Salvation Army who is really in need right now with the volume of assistance they have to provide for all the flood victims.
If you are working in a company and would like to solicit some donation from them, please go ahead. We are working on some information sheet to send out so that you can solicit help better. Let's work together to bring some more food, clean clothes and assistance to these unfortunate families in Houston. All of your help is greatly appreciated. For local chapters, you can do fund-raising together and send the money to us or send it directly to "Salvation Army" Note: Houston Flood Relief.

Thanks so much for your help.
Message from Vera Tran, the project coordinator:
I am calling upon you all to help me execute a flood relief drive this Saturday, June 16. As you know, Houston has been severely struck by the Allison Storm, a natural disaster that has caused the lost of homes, possessions, and even loved ones. I know that each and every one of you has some heart to reach out and help those less fortunate, so I present you with the opportunity to make someone else's life a little better; please put aside at least 3 hours this Saturday to help collect baby items (formula, diapers, etc.), non-perishables, cleaning items, and of course monetary donations. The donations will be given to the Salvation Army for distribution.
There will be 2-3 locations in the southwest area of Houston that you may take a shift and lend a hand. There will be two shifts on Saturday:
11:45 - 3:00PM and 2:45 - 6PM.
I will give you more information about the locations ASAP.
If you are in Houston, please email me at veratran@hotmail or call (713)348-1746 or (cell) (832)545-9875 for the locations. Please leave a message if I cannot pick up the phone. HOUSTON NEEDS YOUR HELP!
