Meal For The HomelessIn the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday season, VCSA will join the Vietnamese community in Houston and Vicinity to organize the Meals for Homeless event
Date: Sunday, November 21, 1999
Time: 9:00am - 3:00pm
Place: Star of Hope Shelter - Dowling Area (downtown)
Attended were Phuong Anh Nguyen, Kim Phuong Le, Ai Chi Tran, Thuc Oanh Khuat, Huong Tran, Dat Nong, Hap Phuc Nguyen, Anh Nguyet, Tran Luu, Nghi Pham, Danny Nguyen, Tram Anh Nguyen, Trinh Le, Bac Tong Nguyen, Danh Le. We, along with the Lions Club, made up the majority of the volunteers.
There were about 50 volunteers, and we served about 150 people a lunch of fried rice, egg roll, fried chicken, and noodles. Everyone really enjoyed the meal, including the volunteers. I want to acknowledge two individuals in our team who stood out. The first is Danny Nguyen who gave a lunch-time show that included singing and telling jokes. Everyone was so involved in the festivity that it was the highlight of the lunch. The second person is Ai Chi Lan who impressed me greatly with her dedication and her ability to work well with others. A real take charge person, and a future leader of VCSA.
The project was much more organized and ran more smoothly than last year; it was a good success. I want to thank everyone for their time and effort, and the people at the shelter were very greatful for the meal and the entertainment. Hand shakes and hugs were abound that day.
